Ovigne government. Kate Brown on Thursday approved a gradual reopening for Yamhill County amid the COVID-19 epidemic. Linfield’s largest campus is on the Yamhill County seat of McMinnville.
The first phase of the reconstruction plan starts Friday, May 15. Restrictions will be reduced in retail stores, restaurants, barbershops and salons, but they can monitor appropriate social distances and use personal protective equipment to protect against novel coronavir.
Linfield leaders said they are grateful for the governor’s move. Students stay at home at Linfield School of Nursing located in Portland City, Mulnomah County.
Linfield President Miles K. “While this is only the first step, we are interested in the possibility of bringing some students, faculty and staff back to our campus,” Davis said.
Davis said Linfield is pleased to work with government leaders to ensure that the areas around both campuses can reopen in the future with careful planning.
Yamhill County commissioners requested the reopening after assuring the governor’s office that the county has adequate testing, contact tracking and hospital capacity to handle COVD-19 patients. According to county officials, there are currently 52 confirmed cases of coronovirus in the county, but no one enters the hospital.
“We appreciate the hard work of our local and county officials in establishing guidelines and communication avenues to assist in the phased reopening process,” said Patricia Hedland, director of student health, welfare and counseling at Lynnfield. “The college has always enjoyed a strong connection with Yamhill County Public Health. We look forward to working together for a safe reopening plan and implementation of Linfield. ”
The Oregon Health Authority hopes to approve reopening guidelines for colleges and universities in the coming weeks.
Linfield leaders are exploring the fall semester and exploring the various circumstances under which the university may operate. The plan includes options for guidance, housing and food services, student activities, and more.
“We will continue to work with state and county health officials and do our best for the safety and wellbeing of the Linfield community,” Davis said.
Linfield is a separate, non-profit university with campuses in Macfield, Oregon and Portland. Eighty percent of Linfield students are first-generation college students, and more than one-third are American students. The US State Department has honored Linfield as the top manufacturer of Fulbright Scholars for three consecutive years.
